Women on Wheels

Women on Wheels

In Lahore

One of the highlights of my motorcycle career was leading the “Women on Wheels” initiative in Lahore. If you’d told me there would be a day when hundreds of women riders would take to the streets of Lahore, I’d have thought it was a joke. But this wasn’t a joke for Salman Sufi, who dared to challenge societal norms and launched the “Women on Wheels” campaign to empower women by teaching them to ride and providing subsidized motorcycles.

I was deeply honored to lead a rally of hundreds of amazing women through Lahore. The sight of thousands of women reclaiming their public spaces and embracing their mobility was truly inspiring. Fast forward to 2024, and it’s become common to see female riders at every traffic light, a testament to the campaign’s impact.

Some fun facts about the campaign:

  • Over 3,500 women were trained in motorcycle riding.
  • The initiative spurred additional campaigns and programs to further support women in their riding journey.

The “Women on Wheels” campaign wasn’t just about riding; it was about breaking barriers and creating opportunities. It’s incredible to see how far we’ve come and how many lives have been transformed.
